Cord Blood Reproductive Science Core

The UCLA Cord Blood/Reproductive Sciences Core Facility provides specimens, technical support and scientific guidance for basic science and translational research involving human umbilical cord blood (HUCB). We provide HUCB and other reproductive tissues including placenta and umbilical cord segments obtained at delivery. We also are available to facilitate studies on thymopoiesis, immune function, and developmental biology. Our core facility is biosafety level 2/3 and is highly experienced in cell separation and analysis, immune function assessment, molecular biology, and virology. We provide the resources and expertise to purify and study stem cells and other cell types, recognizing that shared facilities, expertise and resources enable more investigators to participate in this exciting area of research. As part of the UCLA research community, we anticipate our services assist investigators in the areas of cancer, angiogenesis, stem cell biology, virology, immunology, and women's health research. With the recent establishment of a stem cell institute and the ongoing recruitment of new faculty to work in this area, this facility is an invaluable asset to the success of these investigators as well as other UCLA investigators.
